Summer is the season of flowers. The bright summer sun shines on the blooming flowers, the gentle breeze sends forth wafts of fragrance that attracts bees and butterflies buzzing around, enabling us to catch the truth, goodness and beauty of nature., Most artists love to paint flowers. They employ different means of expression as their hearts lead them, in a realistic or abstract way, and use their brushes to capture the brilliant blossoms on canvases to demonstrate their passion for life and their zeal for living life., The summer flowers are a symbol of life that allows us to feel the joy of being alive and the meaning of life! Artists paint flowers in full bloom to express the vitality of life. We hope the floral paintings will bring you joy, hope and wonderful experience; and let most of us living in high-rise buildings experience the beauty of nature.

“Happily Bubbling Away” Solo Exhibition of Eliza Cheng

A Hong Kong born Chinese, Eliza received her tertiary education in England. She has been painting since 1998, the year when she made a career turn from management consultancy to art. Having an upbringing in a traditional Chinese family, and a strong exposure to the western cultures throughout her education and career development, her contemporary art carries a blend of eastern and western cultural influence.

In summer 2011, she obtained an MFA in Painting with the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. Through delving into the subject of abstract painting during her years of study, the bodies of her art have embraced a major shift from representational roots to pure conceptual compositions and abstract expressionism.

Eliza has had solo shows in Hong Kong. She also exhibits annually with Artists Abroad, an art group composed of some international artists in which she has been the Treasurer and board member since 2002. She actively participates in various local community projects and artist-in-residency programs. Last year with the “Lines” series of her works, she was shortlisted for a New York based AIR program organized by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. A piece from the “Bubbles” series also got selected into the juried competition and exhibition by Hong Kong Oil Painting Research Society. She has done commissioned work for private collectors as well as corporations. Eliza currently lives in Hong Kong where she teaches private lessons in art and painting.

Three Quarter Column Where Imagination Leads” Abstract Art Exhibition

Abstract art is a branch of art emerged in the West in the 1910s that broke from the tradition that a painting had to represent something. Before that, realist and impressionist artists painted objects and landscape exactly as how they saw them. In abstract art, artists present their subjective experience and imagination of the objects and scenery they painted. Relative image of the scenery or object no longer exists. Viewers have to use their imagination and senses to explore and interprete the works or art. Most abstract paintings represent things that are not visual. Points, lines, surfaces, forms, colour and texture become the elements that convey the artists’ emotion and spiritual experiences. To understand abstract art, you need to have keen senses and open imagination. Allowing your senses to be linked up with your sight and wandering around the painting and see where it takes you. Abstract art should be admired in the same way as that of listening to music. Let the elements of the painting flow through your senses the way the notes of music wash over your soul. One of the beautiful things about abstract art is its opening to interpretation. Abstract art gives you freedom to explore the artwork and assign your own meaning to the piece. This personalised process enriches a viewer’s experience of an artwork.

Some people may think that abstract art is easy. However, painting or creating abstract arts is not as simple as they look. It demands great drawing skill and a heightened sensitivity for composition and colours. For a piece of abstract art to have significance for anyone other than the artist, it needs to have something that can retain the viewer’s attention, draw them in, keep them looking, and generate an emotional response. Let’s admire abstract art with an open mind and an open heart – let imagination leads.

Born in 1955 in Guangzhou, China, Huang He received a bachelor degree of fine art from the Sculpture Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1982. He went to Australia for further study in 1988 and was widely involved in oil painting. His pieces such as “Meditation” earned him the special prize of the National Sculpture Exhibition in Australia. In 2000, he returned to his homeland where he was appointed a visiting professor at the Institute of Visual Art at Fudan University, Shanghai and Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. He was involved in creating and planning a wide collection of public sculptures and exhibitions. His sculpture work “The 78th” was selected to the National Arts Exhibition and became the permanent collection of Guangdong Museum of Art.

Majoring in sculpture making, sketching is Huang’s sources of inspiration. He enjoys sketching on streets or in public transportation in order to maintain his acute sensitivity to daily life. Sketching also induces his passion for painting. Huang’s paintings bear the characteristics of his sculpture works; the powerful strokes represent self-confidence, strength and passion. Huang’s bold and unrestrained drawing technique is well received.

Huang has the valuable noble quality of an artist, wholehearted persistence and indulgence in pursuit of arts. Even at middle ages, Huang still has such admirably poetic, passionate and pure ideals.

“Sketching China” includes pieces of Huang He’s oil paintings in recent years. Most of these works are on-site sketching with focus on countryside, metropolitan, flora and still objects and portrait, etc. As an adventurer of the life journey, Huang expresses his unique experiences in every day life with strokes and sculpture knife. The exhibition will also display some pieces of Huang’s sculpture work, enabling visitors to appreciate both his paintings and sculptures.
